Public Interest Registry (PIR), a non-profit group managing .org TLD announced a novel international public awareness campaign aimed at defending .org domain name holders from the imminent detrimental effects of permitting their .org domain names to terminate.

The company said its novel campaign ‘protectyour.org’ focalizes on conserving the importance of .org domain, aspires to instruct persons regarding its value whether they are specialized or novices.

It also provides gradations for placing, administering, strengthening and procuring domain names to minimize the possibility of disorders that may happen when domain names tumble either purposely or because of expiration.

In March 2006, a letter to the Security and Stability Advisory Committee Liaison at the ICANN, the company’s (PIR) president and CEO Edward G.Viltz expressed his reaction over the rising pattern of choosing, examining, or disapproving expired domain names that are supported by the names’ monetary value and the successive utilization of those names defending the original registrant’s or organization’s objective.

Mr. Viltz stated, “There are any number of unintentional events that can result from allowing domain names to expire -- in terms of both an organization's public image and the relationships the organization has constituted with its audience. We believe the impact of this phenomenon on the .ORG community can be even direr because of the level of trust that exists between nonprofit, noncommercial, and charitable organizations -- which tend to use .ORG domain names to convey their noncommercial status -- and their members and constituents.”
